What to Consider When Planning a Bathroom Renovation

Remodeling or renovating your bathroom is a large investment. It’s important to ensure you choose the right project for your budget and needs.

Avoid cutting corners when it comes to structural or functional design elements. Also, keep in mind that labor is a significant cost. For more information just visit Bathroom Remodel Milwaukee.

A bathroom renovation can be expensive, but if you’re careful and work with a skilled contractor, you can save money. A professional can provide discounts on materials, prevent costly mistakes, and add extra style and flair to your remodel. They can also help you create a plan to avoid overspending and keep the project on track.

The bathroom renovation cost can vary greatly depending on the scope and materials used. You’ll need to consider the size of your bathroom, whether you want to keep or change the layout, and what kind of renovation you’re planning. Depending on these factors, you can expect to spend between $20,000 and $28,000 for a basic bathroom remodel. The costs may go up to $50,000 or more for a major overhaul.

Considering all the renovation costs, including labor and materials, is important. The labor component can account for up to 40 percent of the overall cost. Choosing products requiring less installation labor, such as SPC flooring and prefabricated shower walls, can reduce costs. You can also save by using the same layout as before, preventing having to move plumbing and electrical.

If you have carpentry skills, you can remodel yourself instead of hiring a contractor. However, this may be a risky decision. It could be dangerous or significantly damage your home if it’s done wrong. Additionally, it can be very time-consuming and expensive.

Another way to cut costs is by reducing the materials used in the renovation. This can be done by using recycled materials or finding bargains online. For example, a shower curtain can cost as little as $15 from an online retailer, but a similar one in polished chrome might be more than double that price.

Lastly, you can use a personal loan to finance your remodeling project. These loans have fixed interest rates and repayment periods, so they’re easier to manage than other forms of debt. They can also allow you to spread out payments over an extended period.

The layout of a bathroom remodel is the foundation for your space. It determines how the room is used and whether or not it meets your needs. It also affects what type of renovation is required. Choosing a layout that meets local codes and guidelines and is compatible with your lifestyle is important. For example, you need enough space to accommodate a tub, shower, sink, toilet, and basic storage. You can also find plenty of design inspiration online to help you develop a layout idea that matches your style and budget.

A common full bath layout features the toilet and vanity together along one wall with a tub or shower positioned on another. This layout is efficient for small spaces and can help reduce construction costs by keeping all the plumbing fixtures on the same side of the room. It can be difficult to fit a spacious vanity in this layout, so opt for an open floor plan or consider a smaller furniture-style vanity to maximize the space.

If your bathroom is used by multiple people daily, opt for an alcove tub. This allows you to have a large amount of space for your shower and tub but also provides space on the long wall adjacent to the door for linen cabinets or other storage units. This layout can make it easier to keep your bathroom clean and organized and feel bigger.

When selecting your layout, it’s important to consider the size of your bathroom door and how it will impact your workflow. You’ll want a door that opens and closes easily without using any usable space or blocking fixtures like your toilet. You’ll also want to ensure adequate clearance between your bathtub and shower and between the bathroom and water closet.

You can choose from dozens of different bathroom layouts, and the best one for your home depends on your personal preference and how the room is used. If you need help determining the right, consult a professional for ideas and recommendations.

Using the right materials is important for any renovation project, especially one as large and complicated as a bathroom. You want the finished room to look beautiful, but you also need it to withstand moisture, frequent use, and a variety of cleaning products. High-quality bathroom materials will ensure your new space lasts for years and provide a return on investment.

Walls, flooring, and countertops all require water-resistant materials that are easy to clean and prevent mold, mildew, and rot. Tiling is a great option for walls in various styles and colors to suit any design scheme. Engineered quartz and Silestone are two high-performance materials that fit bathrooms well. Both are durable, scratch-resistant, and stain-resistant, available in some patterns and finishes.

You may also want to consider replacing the sink faucets, drawer knobs, handles, and other hardware to keep up with current design trends. Finishes like stylish gold accents, brushed metal, and stainless steel are in demand. These upgrades are often inexpensive and will instantly update your space.

The bathtub is another crucial element in any bathroom, so you want to select a water-resistant and visually appealing material. Fiberglass tubs are inexpensive and can be repaired if chipped, but they’re less durable than other options. Acrylic tubs are slightly more expensive but sturdy and have some color and shape options. You can also choose a freestanding tub or one built into the room’s corner.

Replacing the windows is another simple upgrade that will help save money on heating and cooling costs. Crank and awning windows are popular choices that let you open the window in any weather for fresh air.

Another simple yet cost-effective upgrade is to replace old light fixtures with new LED bulbs. This will immediately improve the look of your bathroom while saving you on your energy bills.

The bathroom renovation design can be the most exciting element, but it’s also one of the most complicated. You’ll need to consider how each feature will fit in with your lifestyle and the overall look of your home. If you need help figuring out where to start, ask an Architect or Structural engineer to help you with the design process. They’ll know the specific requirements that must be met and can offer suggestions to improve your project.

During the design phase, it’s important to choose materials that will last well and withstand the damp environment of the bathroom. It’s also a good idea to stick with a color scheme that will complement the rest of your home’s decor. This will create a more cohesive look and feel. Lastly, you’ll need to consider your new bathroom’s plumbing and electrical needs. For example, you might need to add more outlets or switches. Ensure that all of this is included in the initial design so there are no surprises when construction begins.

Before you begin the actual remodel, take some time to browse through design magazines and websites to get ideas on what you want your finished bathroom to look like. It’s also a good idea to discuss your plans with family and friends so they can give you their opinion on what would work best.

Once you’ve settled on a design, show it to your plumber, electrician, and tiler before the work starts. They’ll need to see it to give you an accurate estimate of what the project will cost. Also, get the room’s dimensions to shop for your fixtures and materials beforehand.

A renovation is a great way to update your bathroom. Whether a simple repaint or a complete redesign, a renovated bathroom can greatly improve your home. The most important thing is ensuring your bathroom is safe and meets all the current building codes.

Benefits of Replacement Windows

There are several factors to consider if you’re in the market for new windows. Some of the most important include style, performance, and longevity.

Replacement Windows

Unlike new construction windows, insert replacement windows don’t require major alterations to your home’s frame, trim, and siding. This is a great benefit for homes that have carefully curated exteriors. Visit Website to learn more.

One of the biggest benefits of new replacement windows is their energy efficiency. Old single-pane windows allow heat to escape in the winter and air to leak in the summer, causing your HVAC system to work harder to regulate your home’s temperature. Thankfully, modern window technology helps minimize this heat transfer. New windows with a lower U-factor can reduce your energy costs by 20% – 31%!

This is because of advancements in glazing and insulation technology. Also, a new window’s design helps minimize maintenance requirements. New windows are more tightly sealed and designed to stand up to extreme weather conditions, including humidity and rain.

Additionally, they are easier to clean. This is because most replacement windows feature a low-maintenance coating that repels dirt and debris. And, many of the materials used in replacement windows – including vinyl, wood and fiberglass – are long-lasting and durable.

Another advantage is that they don’t require major alterations to your existing wall, trim or siding. This is a big plus for homeowners that don’t want to have to repaint their homes or disrupt their existing curb appeal.

There are a variety of replacement window options that will fit your home’s style and needs. For example, there are double-hung windows that offer two separate sashes that can be opened to improve air circulation or single-hung windows that only open at the bottom to make it easier to reach the outside to clean. There are also sliding and bay & bow windows that offer a large opening to allow more natural light into the home.

Finally, there are awning and exterior blinds that can be added to your windows to further improve their energy efficiency. By shading your windows, you can help prevent heat and sunlight from warming up your living space and affecting your HVAC’s performance.

When choosing replacement windows, be sure to look for the ENERGY STAR label and energy-use ratings from the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC). This will ensure you’re purchasing quality windows that provide these key benefits. And, if you’re concerned about cost, be sure to ask your retailer and installer about available financing options that can help offset the initial investment.

Increased Home Value

Savvy home owners are always looking for ways to increase their house’s value. They may look to invest in a fresh paint job, a kitchen remodel or a basement finishing project. However, these projects can be expensive and time-consuming. One improvement that is quick, affordable and can potentially add a lot of value to your house is replacing old windows.

New windows will not only give your house a great new look, but they will also improve its overall function and efficiency. Potential buyers will be impressed with the improved energy efficiency and lower electricity bills and may be willing to pay more for your house as a result.

With all the recent concerns about climate change, a lot of people are now prioritizing energy efficiency in their homes. This is why it’s so important to choose the right type of replacement windows for your home. Energy-efficient windows are an excellent way to save money on energy costs and may even help you recoup some of your installation cost.

A new window installation will also make your home more secure. Older windows may have warped frames, broken glass or loose locks that can allow criminals to break in and steal valuable items or information. Newer windows are more secure, with better-functioning locking systems and stronger frames that can prevent criminals from gaining access to your property.

Another reason that new windows will increase your home’s value is that they will make it easier for you to sell your house in the future. New windows will attract more prospective buyers, especially if they are energy efficient and well-maintained. If you have to sell your home in the near future, you’ll want to make sure it looks its best so that you can get a good price for it.

Quieter Home

Your home should be an oasis of peace where you can relax with the people that matter most to you. However, if noisy neighborhood sounds like barking pets, zooming traffic, and other distractions interrupt your home’s peaceful atmosphere, you may want to consider replacement windows that offer noise-reducing benefits. New windows designed with sound-blocking features will help create a quieter indoor environment, making it easier to unwind and sleep better at night.

Many people who seek out replacement windows are interested in energy savings or a fresh new look for their home. However, you may be surprised to learn that many new replacement windows are also designed to reduce outside noises, making it easier to enjoy your home’s comfort and privacy. Old single-pane windows let in lots of unwanted outdoor noise, but new replacement windows are usually made with double- or even triple-pane glass that prevents conductive and convective heat loss and reduces outside noises.

You may also find that your new replacement windows come equipped with advanced weatherstripping technology. This feature seals your window openings against air and water infiltration, helping to further reduce outside noises. Additionally, modern window designs often include safety options that allow your family to easily open windows in the event of an emergency, such as a fire or earthquake.

If your home is plagued with loud outdoor noises and you’re sick of the constant interruptions, it may be time to consider having replacement windows in Goshen, IN installed. You can work with your installer to find windows that are designed specifically to stop noises in their tracks and make it much more comfortable inside your home.

Increased Comfort

New windows offer superior insulation, preventing air leaks and regulating indoor temperatures. This can lead to lower energy bills and less strain on your HVAC system. Plus, the elimination of drafts and hot or cold spots can make every room more comfortable.

In addition to boosting your home’s energy efficiency, new replacement windows help you get more from the natural light in your home. Studies show that natural light improves mood, productivity and your reliance on artificial lighting during the day. New windows maximize your exposure to sunlight while blocking harmful UV rays that can fade and discolor interiors and furniture.

Aside from saving on your utility bills, replacement windows can also increase the security of your home. Older windows often lock poorly or don’t lock at all, which puts your family and belongings at risk of unauthorized entry. Modern replacement windows have high-security locking options to keep your home safe and secure from intruders.

Replacement windows give you greater flexibility when it comes to interior design, too. Many manufacturers offer an array of styles, materials and colors so that you can easily create the look you want for your home’s exterior and interior. You can even add trim and accent pieces to customize the look of your windows. This level of customization allows you to make a statement that suits your taste and complements your home’s architectural style.

Online Retailers Need Internet Marketing For Increased Sales

Internet marketing is often misunderstood. There is far more to internet marketing than putting a banner ad on Facebook and waiting for visitors to come to your site. The number of options is astounding and this article offers some advice on how to pursue those options. Follow the tips below to get started on a successful online marketing campaign.

“Fire” products that are not making you money. Your space is valuable so do not keep products that are not helping you. Track the success of each ad, both in terms of number of clicks and in how much money you receive. Consider that some products are seasonal and may need to be temporarily retired until needed again.

Be as detailed as possible when marketing a product. Studies show that large percentages of the population need profuse explanations about the benefits of the products they are thinking of buying in order to be persuaded. If customers genuinely believe the marketing, they will be much more willing to buy the product. Researchers have found that many people will trust a website with several paragraphs of information about a product over a website that is very succinct.

Encourage any employees of your company to contribute their thoughts and activities through online accounts, including Twitter and Facebook. While some of these messages may not be exactly what you would want to be published, it will make your brand seem more “real” and accessible by the general public, helping humanize your brand.

The advice offered in this article will help you reach your online marketing goals. They introduce some concepts that many people are not familiar with; internet marketing is an intricate science that is best conducted when you have the right tips available. Keep the tips presented in this article by your side to ensure you are on the right path.

How To Choose A Realtor For Buying A House?

Are you planning to buy a house but aren’t sure where to start?

Buying your dream house is always a special and sentimental experience. However, it can quickly turn stressful when not planned carefully.

Thus, the first and most crucial step before investing financially in a property is to hire a professional realtor.

Experienced agents act as guides to help you find a perfect home within a preferred budget. Since they are familiar with the technicalities of the process, they ensure smooth and quick navigation for the clients.

However, finding a realtor that fits your preferences can seem highly daunting. Therefore, seek the help of online services, ratings, and recommendations to hire a desirable agent.

Get Referrals

Seeking referrals from a close network of family and friends is an old and proven method of hiring a realtor.

Since there is a wide range of options available at our disposal, it is natural to feel lost when shortlisting an agent. Thus, it is recommended to get authentic references of potential candidates that fit your budget and requirements.

Furthermore, inquire about their skills, behavior, and client service before interviewing the agents.

Do Background Research

When finding a realtor, it is mandatory to do a preliminary check of their work and credentials. Thus, make sure you explore their website and social media accounts to track past performance.

Also, ensure to look at online reviews to further verify your facts. While an authentic realtor has a mixed set of opinions posted on their website, one-sided reviews are a huge red flag.

A desirable realtor is a certified and licensed candidate with no record of disciplinary complaints. Therefore, do not forget to ask for license details and references before making a final decision.

Prioritize Local Market Experience

Knowledge of local market trends is an underestimated factor that must be considered when shortlisting a realtor for your home.

A realtor familiar with the nuances of the local real estate market can help you find your dream house in no time.

Since experienced professionals stay up to date with the newly listed homes and average sale prices, they can further help you get better deals and impressive discounts.

Focus on Communication and Compatibility

Buying a house is a complicated process that can be highly strenuous especially for first-time buyers.

Thus, it is advisable to opt for a compatible agent you can easily communicate your vision to.

Additionally, finding a realtor who can answer all your queries and ensure you don’t feel overwhelmed is an essential part of the home purchasing journey and shouldn’t be rushed.

Merry Christmas to All

It’s Christmas Eve Eve! Time for me to finish wrapping the last of the presents and celebrate! I’ve got a light menu planned during the day since we’re going out to eat on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We will be driving around looking at Christmas lights and popping in to see a few friends.

I’m feeling extra nostalgic because this is likely the last Christmas we will celebrate in this house. We’ve raised the family here but now we’re ready to move on. My daughter is off to college next year and my family will be looking for a fresh start.

This has been our home for twenty years so it’s bittersweet to be celebrating the season one last time in this space.

I want to say thank you to all of you who visit this blog and remain regular subscribers. You inspire me to keep writing and creating and I’m so grateful for all of you. Even though we’ve never met, you are all very special to me. I appreciate the comments and the encouraging words you share.

For those who celebrate, I wish you the merriest Christmas with your family and friends. I’ll be taking a few days off but I’ll be back next week with a roundup of lessons learned from 2021, it was an interesting year for sure!

Sending much love and feeling so much gratitude for all of you.

xoxo

Ideas for Gifting Experiences

If you’re still wondering what to give that special person, there’s still time to give someone the gift of an experiences!

Perhaps they’d prefer the gift of a memory instead of a thing. What are they passionate about? What have they mentioned they’d like to try? Below is a list of ideas for gifting a great memory to someone you care about this holiday season.

Tasting Experiences

Consider a culinary or market tour your person may enjoy. Airbnb Experiences and Trip Advisor are great sources for ideas in their area. Look for specialty food gatherings, wine tours, pub crawls, local market tours, and chef led tastings available in their area.

Online Courses

No doubt you’ve seen the ads for Masterclass with all the experts and celebs they’ve rounded up to teach classes. Skillshare and Creative Live are also great sources for anyone who wants to gain more knowledge in their hobby or profession.

Fender teaches guitar to beginners and Flowkey will help them learn piano. If there is a podcaster or mentor they are inspired by, consider one of their courses as a gift too. Airbnb now offers online culinary experiences and tours for anyone who wants to travel to or taste or learn from someone in a different part of the world.

Local Excursions or Tours

I’ve had great success over the years with Get Your Guide. I’ve booked multiple tours and excursions in foreign countries and also right here at home in the Wine Country and San Francisco Bay Area. Day trips by boat, bike, or van allow one to explore different areas even in their own backyard. Each experience has multiple written reviews and a gift card will allow them to book whatever experience they like near or far.

Memberships to Museums, Parks, & Gardens

Are there local museums, galleries, parks, academies, or botanical gardens they love to visit? A membership will allow them access anytime they want. Are they off on a road trip next year? Consider the America the Beautiful pass with access to all National Parks.

Local Classes

Who are the makers in their neighborhood? Creatives can learn from local artisans, and foodies can learn from local chefs or take cooking classes at Sur La Table. Do they want to learn to dive or paint or become a beekeeper? Getting them started on a new hobby is very thoughtful and they’ll think of you each time they show up for their new class. 🙂

Daycations

Perhaps there is somewhere close by where they could relax for a day? Most busy moms would appreciate that, but also anyone with a busy schedule who could use a day off . Check out Resort Pass for local hotels and resorts offering use of their amenities for a day!

#182: A Big Catch Up Holiday-ish Special (Surprise!)

So much has happened since we last picked up the podcast mic, so we have a jam-packed show to catch you up on all the things. We’re talking house updates, embarrassing stories, renovation plans, and we even worked in some bad metaphorical diagrams (because describing graphs and charts you can’t see always goes over well in an audio format). We’re also diving into how house projects have slowed down around here, the remaining projects on our list, and how our attitude towards having less on our to-do list has changed pretty dramatically over the years. Plus an impromptu musical exercise that captured our family’s contentment for living in a smaller home, and why Sherry can never show her face in one Florida city again. Also, a fun holiday game and the TV show we’ve been dying to tell you about.

You can also find this episode on your favorite podcast listening app, like Apple PodcastsGoogle PodcastsTuneIn RadioStitcher and Spotify.

How The Kitchen Changed With A New Door & Our Holiday Decor

It’s wild to think that this is our second year of decorating this house for the holidays (what even is time?!) but first a ton of you were asking to see what happened to the kitchen side of the space once the new door went in. Our last post covered all the photos and angles of the new kitchen porch we created outside – just steps away from our cooking area inside. So let’s take a look at what went down inside. Here’s what the kitchen is looking like these days:

table | chairs | sconces | pendant | floating shelves | wall shelf | hardware | cabinet color: SW Artsy Pink

It’s always fun to rewind, so if we take a step back in time, this is the kitchen as it looked when we bought this house in Feb of 2020:

We talked about our initial updates to the room waaaaay back in this post from May of 2020 (before we moved in).

4 Great Tips for Decorating the Wall with Canvas Prints

Gone are the days of standard prints on the wall, nowadays you can completely personalize what you hang on your wall at home.

Whether you’re having precious photos printed on canvas, or ordering your favorite fine art reproduction, there’s plenty to choose from.

To be honest, that doesn’t always make decorating your home easy. How do you ensure that your wall decoration still fits well with the rest of the interior, and that the whole looks tasteful and also original? Here we give you 4 great tips for decorating the wall with canvas.

Don’t be afraid to mix

When it comes to wall decoration, there are few rules. So don’t stop yourself from experimenting and mixing different media. For example, combine a photo printed on canvas with that large clock, smaller photo frames, a cool wall lamp and a shelf with a plant. Other ideas for wall decoration include musical instruments, found objects, beautiful pieces of cloth or fabric, dream catchers, crockery and mirrors.

To make it a whole, make sure that the colors and style of all decoration objects match. For example, a modern, sleek clock should have a more minimalistic image, while a classic wall lamp fits beautifully with a lush ivy hanging plant and a beautiful photo of a special family moment. Also consider the color of the wall itself when choosing the pieces, and the rest of the interior in the room.

Go for the right print in the right space

The living room is probably the first room where you think of hanging canvas prints. But don’t forget the rest of the house either! Where a stylish photo collage or a large statement piece works well above the sofa, the hall, for example, is a nice space to hang a medium-sized family portrait. This way, everyone who enters immediately knows which household they are in, and this is also the last image that visitors see when they leave the house.

The kitchen? Of course, images of food items do well there. Keep in mind that shooting food is a specialty, so make sure that if you take your own photos, they are also of print-worthy quality. It can be fun to combine the images with a chalkboard for the groceries and pans on the wall.

In the toilet you can play with prints again. Will it be some inspiring sayings, or just that one slightly embarrassing, but super funny photo from an amusement park? The study, on the other hand, does better with a calm image, a favorite piece of art for example, or a more artistic portrait in black and white. In the bedroom you can take advantage of the more intimate atmosphere with photos from the wedding, or a special photo shoot you did with your partner.

With or without frame

The great thing about most canvas prints is that they can be hung without a frame. If you want to protect the print a little more, or simply give it a different style, consider putting a frame around it. The print gets a more chic look with a frame, and you immediately have the chance to play with color and style. A classic frame for a classic photo, a clean frame for a clean image. Or you mix it right!

Involve the whole household

Do not make the selection of canvas prints for the wall a lonely task but give everyone in the house a voice. Children will especially enjoy being able to pick out their own picture for the wall.

Beautiful canvas ideas for the baby and children’s room are of course photos of the whole family, images of moments that the child is proud of (such as that one successful birthday party or the presentation of the swimming diploma) and of course prints of the favorite heroes the little one. Or how about officially framed versions of the most beautiful works of art the child has created?

But your partner will also have their own ideas about what she or he would like to see on canvas on the wall. And who knows, very nice ideas, which you would not have come up with so quickly! So discuss the options together and make sure everyone agrees with the final choice. This way everyone in the house enjoys looking at the pieces on the wall.
